Mozilla Hub

Mozilla hubs is an online platform that is very similar to Virtual Futures where the players find themselves in a virtual word with multiple existing social economy buildings. However, the main difference is that Mozilla Hubs is an online platform that in addition to a virtual tour, it also allows for multiple users to be in the same world with full text and audio communication enabled in addition to access to online materials such as videos that explain each building. Players would normally use headphones and microphones while playing to avoid noise and sound feedback between the different players.

Players would meet at the beginning of every session and will be given a printed map of the world they will be playing in, the server will be set to a world reflecting a known location for the players, normally in the area they live in. The players would learn how to play the game by navigating its using an attached leaflet (link here) (to be printed) explaining the game controls and the quest for the world (example link here).

Equipment

  • Laptops (Windows or Mac), minimum 8 GB Ram (1 per user preferred)
  • Smart Phones (with internet browser) are suitable for this tool (1 per user)
  • Tablets (with internet browser) are suitable for this tool (1 per user preferred)
  • Internet is required for this tool
  • Headphones (with microphones) are required for this tool to use the group chat feature. Connection adapter might be required for wired headphones.

Technical Preparation before sessions

  • Ensuring that you have access to the devices you wish to use such as passwords and access code
  • Ensuring that you have internet connection
  • Installing a web browser on the devices if not installed already (Chrome, Safari, Firefox, Edge, Opera etc)
  • Storing the map links in the bookmarks of the browser for quick access, if you have multiple browsers installed , then please ensure to use the same browser where you saved the bookmark for the website
  • Charging any devices that require charging
  • The whole technical setup for all devices must be tested at the location ahead of the session to ensure that all devices/ headphones work together without internet connection interruptions or overload
